Michael McDowell, Head Pro at Mesa Country Club (MCC), is expanding his focus in an often neglected area of player development. The goal of this program is not to replace the tennis pro or to teach stroke production, tactics or strategy. The aim is to build a strong foundation through a tennis specific training program that improves a player’s strength, fitness and flexibility as well as on-court movement and balance. “We are extremely pleased to have Michael join our team as Head Pro here at MCC,” says USPTA Master Professional Mike Van Zutphen, Director of Tennis at the club. “He is not only a great teaching pro, but he is developing some very innovative tennis training programs for our members as well as for the public in general.” Michael offers Cardio Tennis for adults of all levels as well as private, semi-private and group tennis specific training programs for juniors and adults. You can get a personalized plan regardless of age, fitness level or tennis skill level. Or you can just come out and get a good workout that is far less repetitive and boring than your standard in-the-gym fare. Becoming Etcheberry Certified is the latest step in Michael’s commitment to steal ideas from the very best minds involved in tennis training today. When in the valley of the sun, be sure to get in touch with Michael McDowell USPTA, PTR to share in this bounty of ill gotten goods. Michael has a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Texas and is USPTA and PTR certified. He has participated in the growth of tennis a variety of ways, such as serving as Central Arizona Director of Leagues for the USTA for four years and acting as Director of Tennis for the Arizona Tennis Association. Currently, he is the Director of Tennis for his own project, Advantage Tennis Academy, which will provide tennis instruction to over 600 juniors this year. |
