Ron Christman coaches at Waynesburg College and works with select junior players in the Greater Pittsburgh area. He has coached the Waynesburg women since 1998 and the men since 2000. The teams were a combined 8-212 over the previous ten years. Under Christman both teams earned their first winning seasons in 2001-2002 and their first individual conference champions in 2003-2004. Both teams now place three or more players on the all-conference team and finish in the top echelon each year. They also excel in the classroom with the women’s team earning the ITA All-Academic Team Award for the seventh straight year and the men for the fourth time in 2006-2007.

His teams were among the first to incorporate tennis specific fitness and strength training into their programs and he is recognized for developing annual training and play plans for players and teams. His players are known for fitness, court quickness, modern strokes, all-court play, and intelligent, aggressive tactics.

He was named USPTA Middle States College Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2004 and has twice been named conference coach of the year.

Christman is a regional and national speaker. He has presented his Winning Doubles Strategy at the USPTA International Conference in Phoenix, Building Tennis Programs at the ITA National Convention in Miami, NCAA Division III Tennis at the USTA Middle States Pittsburgh College Day and USTA Mid-West College Night in Indianapolis, and sat on a coaches’ panel on community outreach at the ITA national convention.
